On Tuesday, 4th November, Loreto College welcomed staff and pupils from St Wilfrid’s Primary School as they passed on the Diocesan Jubilee Anchor to them in the special service in the College Chapel.
The wooden anchor has been passed around schools in the Diocese as a symbol of this year’s Jubilee and our calling to be ‘pilgrims of hope.’ Bishop John has challenged each school to make the anchor a focal symbol throughout the year, reminding pupils, teachers, staff, and governors of the grounding hope of our faith as we work together towards a brighter future in Christ.
As Loreto passed the anchor to St Wilfrid’s, about eighty Loreto students and ten pupils from St Wilfrid’s joined together for a service of prayer and reflection. They were invited to reflect on the Gospel passage in which Jesus calms a storm and think about the storms in our lives and how they can be calmed. Students were invited to place a candle before the anchor and were allowed to pray the Jubilee Prayer, which was led by our Chaplaincy Ambassadors and pupils from St Wilfrid’s. Students were sent out to walk forward with courage in the knowledge that hope anchors them.
