The college is celebrating another set of magnificent examination results. Excited students and staff are delighted at the achievements across A-level and vocational courses. Highlights include a 99% pass rate at A level, with an impressive 24% at grades A* – A, 56% A* – B and 82% A* – C. 72 students achieved at least three grades at A* or A, and overall there were nearly 2000 A* and A grades. Not surprisingly, many Loreto students have gained places at prestigious Russell Group universities, 16 at Oxford or Cambridge, and 29 on highly competitive medicine, dentistry and veterinary science courses.

These marvellous accomplishments are augmented by outstanding results across vocational areas where the percentage of high grades in all advanced level BTECs was well above national averages and all courses had a 100% pass rate. 35 BTEC students achieved the prestigious triple Distinction* grade and will now be going on to study a wide range of degrees including Nursing, Computing, Sports Development and Tourism, and Event Management.

Loreto: Number One Sixth Form College in the North West for A-levels and top 1% nationally for A-level Progress

Loreto is the number one college in the North West for A level grades. The latest Department for Education league tables published in 2015 have ranked Loreto as the number one college in the North West in terms of average points per A-level entry (APE), this being regarded as the most accurate guide to A-level performance (www.gov.uk/dfe)

In addition Loreto is in the top 1% of 1164 schools and colleges nationally for value added, as measured by the Advanced Level Performance System (ALPS).

This system ranks institutions according to a value added criterion measuring the academic progress students make from the GCSEs with which they arrive.

Loreto students leave college with results that are one grade, or in some cases, two grades, higher than would be expected, based on their GCSE scores. In the latest value added league table published by the Department for Education in 2015 Loreto was placed 2nd nationally of all sixth form colleges.

Principal Ann Clynch, CBE, is full of praise for students and staff, commenting: “I am delighted that, once more, I look at our results and feel very proud of the immense achievements of Loreto students and staff. They are great testimony to the hard work and commitment of students and the inspirational teaching Loreto provides.  These results, combined with the variety of enrichment opportunities they can access, mean that Loreto students can progress on to the next stage of their lives in learning well able to deal with the challenges it will bring.”
