“I am very pleased to report that Loreto’s long standing history of success continues, thanks to our hardworking students and excellent team of staff, despite a challenging year. I am very proud of the successes of our students, both for their academic achievements and also the very significant contributions they made to the life of the college. Today marks a new beginning for our Upper Sixth students as they move on to their chosen next steps. We wish them all the very best and remind them that they will always be part of a very special community at Loreto”
Oxbridge news 2020
This year 23 Loreto College students have had their places confirmed by the top two universities in the world: University of Oxford and University of Cambridge. Students will be reading a range of subjects including Medicine, History of Art , Engineering, Law, Maths, Biochemistry, Geography and Philosophy.
The successful students come to Loreto from a variety of non-selective, state inner-city high schools from across the region, including Salford, Stockport, High Peak, and Manchester. Those with Oxbridge potential are identified by GCSE results and academic performance once they arrive. They are then offered a bespoke programme designed to develop students’ debating and thinking skills, whilst providing insight into, and knowledge of, the application process.
Medics, Dentists and Vets 2020
75 Loreto College students have been offered places on medical or dentistry or veterinary degree courses. They are given rigorous interview preparation with a strong emphasis on the scientific aspects of the various courses and career paths, as well as being encouraged to engage in broader reading, to consider ethical issues and participate in debates. The college has developed superb connections with the community outside Loreto, ensuring that students are involved in summer schools, conferences, visits and forums, and take full advantage of opportunities presented by leadership and research projects, locally and internationally.

The release of the 2018-19 Department for Education Performance Tables has shown that Loreto Sixth Form College is 1st of all Sixth Form Colleges in Manchester for A level Points per Entry (APE). We are also proud to report that we are the third highest Catholic Sixth Form College in the country for progress. Progress is measured by a Value Added (VA) score. The VA score highlights how far a student has progressed from their GCSE grades to their A Level outcomes at the end of their studies at college.
