Twenty lucky A Level Media and Film students had a behind the scenes look at the studios and production facilities at BBC MediaCity, which employs 3000 people. The group visited the BBC 6Music studio to get a feel for how a radio show is broadcast. We then visited the main BBC building, Quay House, to see the Match of the Day 2 studio and the BBC Breakfast studio. A highlight of the tour was a chance for some students to have a go at presenting a news broadcast in a mock-up of the Breakfast studio, and to sit behind a Question of Sport desk to compete in the numbers round. The BBC guides gave an in depth feel for how shows were produced and how Britain’s largest Media organisation works.
