The Debate and Model UN club has wrapped up a great year with success at the WiMUN (Withington Model United Nations) Conference.

Representing the countries of Kenya and Slovenia, twenty students took part in this year’s conference, showcasing their research, negotiation, and public speaking abilities across a range of global topics. Their preparation and commitment were clearly reflected in the impressive number of accolades received.

Haider Dar and Sofiia Lozenko each secured the coveted Best Delegate award in their respective committees—Haider in the Security Council and Sofiia in the Historical Committee. These awards recognise excellent performance and influence in debate and negotiation, and both students displayed the diplomacy and insight required to rise above the competition.

Newcomer Kwathar Zenati made a strong impression in her very first MUN appearance, earning a Commended Delegate award in the Future Committee.  Meanwhile, Sedric Chan was honoured with a Special Mention in the Special Committee on AI.

A highlight of the conference was the keynote address delivered by Madeleine Garlick, Africa Director of One Carbon World.  Her thought-provoking address explored both the strengths and the limitations of the UN. She did not shy away from acknowledging the organisation’s challenges and the frequent criticisms it faces, but she also offered a powerful counterbalance, sharing inspiring examples of innovation and global cooperation.

Well done to all involved—your hard work, diplomacy, and enthusiasm have made us proud!
