Six outstanding Loreto College students delivered a memorable performance to win round two of the prestigious English Schools’ Athletic Association (ESAA) Cross Country Schools’ Cup Competition, one of the country’s most competitive school and college cross-country events.
Competing against 21 of the strongest school and college teams from across the North West, the squad demonstrated exceptional determination, teamwork and resilience throughout the competition. The runners battled challenging conditions and a highly talented field of athletes to claim the national title and bring home the coveted Schools’ Cup.
Pio, Theodor, Finlay, Ben, Kayden, and Evan made a successful team, delivering consistent performances throughout the course. Each athlete played a vital role in the team’s overall success, and their commitment to training, dedication to improvement, and support for one another were clear throughout the event.
Pio delivered an outstanding performance, leading the team to victory and crossing the finish line in first place with a commanding run from start to finish. Showing tremendous strength, determination and tactical awareness throughout the race, he set the pace against a highly competitive field and demonstrated why he is regarded as one of the top young distance runners in the country.
This achievement is a significant milestone for both the athletes and the college, reflecting the college’s commitment to supporting students who compete in sport at a high level outside of college and the hard work invested by the runners throughout the season and academic year.
Winning this round of the English Schools’ AA Cross Country Schools’ Cup is a remarkable accomplishment and places the team among the country’s leading young distance runners. This also qualifies them for the final, which takes place on the 5th December.
The college community is immensely proud of the athletes’ success and congratulates all six runners on their outstanding achievement. Their triumph will inspire future generations of students and highlight the value of dedication, teamwork, and sporting excellence.
