This February, the Art Department embarked on a six‑day educational visit to New York City, immersing students in some of the world’s most influential art, culture, and architecture.
The group flew from Manchester via Paris before arriving at JFK and staying in Times Square, with an itinerary designed to expose students to a wide range of artistic practices, historical contexts, and contemporary culture.
During the week, students enjoyed visits to the Guggenheim Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the American Museum of Natural History. They explored a variety of exhibitions, developed visual research through sketching, and experienced art on a monumental scale through Times Square’s Midnight Moment.
Beyond the museums, students travelled on the Staten Island Ferry, visited the 9/11 Memorial, explored the High Line, and enjoyed independent sightseeing across the city. The group also took in the iconic views from the Top of the Rock observation deck.
Throughout the trip, students demonstrated independence, maturity, and enthusiasm as they engaged with New York’s cultural landscape. The experience provided a valuable opportunity to broaden their artistic perspectives and gather inspiration for future projects.
