The English Department was delighted to welcome Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy to college in May. Probably our most famous living poet, she entertained an enthralled audience of students and staff in Ellis and Kennedy Theatre.

Student Heba Khalid writes:

Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, honoured us all with a visit in May. She read a selection of poems from her anthology, Meantime, shared the inspiration behind them and took on questions from an audience of eager English students. It was definitely a wonderful experience for students such as myself; being able to witness one of the greats, in the flesh, is a once in a lifetime experience I’ll likely never forget. It’s strange and exciting knowing that I’ve met the poet whose work I’m studying and will recall for the rest of my life! I’m grateful for Carol Ann Duffy and Loreto for giving students the opportunity to embrace and explore the works of a literary legend. It has inspired me to venture deeper into the world of poetry and creative writing, and has opened a world of inspiration!
