BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport second year students experienced what it is like to train and play like an elite athlete recently.  Students attended an ultimate experience day at St. George’s Park, home to the England football teams.  The park was recently developed to provide top training and playing facilities for all male and female England teams from school level to the full senior sides, including specialist areas for disability teams.  Loreto students experienced the England team warm up procedure, a full training session with an England coach and a tour of the world-leading facilities and equipment.  To support their studies of the BTEC Sports Injuries Unit, students then had the opportunity to use the injury rehabilitation area, including hydrotherapy pool, hot and cold contrast pools and underwater treadmills.  This will aid them in producing rehabilitation programmes for specific athletes. Students had a great day and were a credit to the college.

Student Adam Armitage commented: “ I really enjoyed the trip, it gave me an insight to the specific rehabilitation therapies that are available to professional athletes and showed us how the equipment is used to recover the injuries effectively.  The facilities were really impressive and the coaching session was not only informative but really fun.”
