5/9/22 – Football trials

We started football trials at the beginning of term and an abundance of talent was on display. The squad made up of all Lower Sixth (which is unusual) has flourished into a fine looking squad. Since then a nucleus of 22/23 have trained regularly on a Wednesday afternoon and a Friday morning and will continue to do so.

The Matches

21/9/22 – Stockport Grammar H

We started with a friendly at home to Stockport Grammar, this was a good introduction for all concerned to College football and resulted in a 3-3 draw.

28/9/22 – Aquinas H

Our first league fixtures were at home to Aquinas, the current League Champions and often the standard setters. Our first team put in a fantastic performance and came out 3-0 winners with Joe opening the scoring in the first half and Fraser grabbing 2 in the second. MotM (Man of the Match) going to Leon who produced a masterclass.

The second team also put in a great show against a strong Aquinas side, unfortunately conceding late on to come out with a 2-2 draw. Goals from David and Harvey. MotM going to Raouf.

5/10/22 – Stockport Grammar A

We took a mixed team to our friendly with Stockport… everybody getting their share of minutes to keep us all active. A level and well competitive match saw us claw back an equaliser in the dying minutes, with Leon expertly chesting down a through ball and placing past the keeper. Goals coming from Joe, Daniel and the pick of the bunch from MotM Leon.

12/10/22 – Xaverian H

1st team – 3 nil up at halftime, Daniel opening the scoring from the penalty spot, then the Xaverian keeper had a day to forget by fumbling 2 shots from distance under himself before the break. Xav’s worked their way into the game and scored 3 second half goals to make the scoreline more respectable, but Fraser grabbed another 2 goals for us to complete the rout. 5-3 home win.

Chizi, auditioning for Superman made several fingertip saves in the first half and then an unbelievable double save from a penalty in the second! A fine performance from the big No.1 – well worthy of the MotM.

2nd team – with a few players missing we had to reshuffle the pack and faced a very strong Xaverian 2nd team that proved decisive. With a 1-1 scoreline at halftime courtesy of Cavan (making his debut), we just didn’t get the rub of the green. 3 second half goals killed us off in a well fought encounter. Jack having a fine game on the left wing receiving the MotM plaudits. 1-4 final score.

The squad continues to work hard and grow together, but we are still open to adding to it, so please if you’d like to play and feel you can add some quality, come and see us at the Sports Pavilion at midday on Wednesdays.
