As part of the Supreme Court’s first ever sitting in Manchester, forty-five Loreto College students were lucky enough to attend as ‘Ask a Justice’ session with Supreme Court Justice Lord Phillips at the University of Manchester (pictured below). Students were able to ask Lord Phillips about his life and career, equality in the legal profession, the skills needed to be a good advocate and judge, and the importance of legal aid and access to justice. We also found out about his time as a barrister representing famous boxer Barry McGuigan! Our students represented the College extremely well at this prestigious event which was also attended by academics and students from the University.

In addition, our mock trial team were recently lucky enough to have the opportunity to meet Mr Justice Fordom, a High Court judge (pictured below), and barrister Sally Penni MBE to gain further insight about advocacy as part of their preparations for the Bar National Mock Trial finals in the Royal Courts of Justice. Just two examples of the amazing opportunities for Loreto’s budding lawyers!
