Geographers headed to the coast, countryside, and all parts of Greater Manchester to gather crucial data for their A-level coursework.
The Geography Department gives students as much choice as possible for their individual investigations, which are worth 20% of their Geography A-level. This means trips are organised to Llandudno, the Sefton Coast, Castleton and Hope Quarry, or students can opt for a study closer to home.
Students are responsible for collecting their own data on geographical topics such as dunes, the effectiveness of coastal defences, the environmental impacts of quarrying in Derbyshire, and whether regeneration schemes in Greater Manchester have been successful.
The coursework is valuable in training students for university research and also gives them a taste of the kind of project work they may get asked to do in future careers.
