Collective Worship

Students are encouraged to take a full, conscious and active role in prayer and liturgy, participating in ways that reflect their personal faith journey. Inspired by Mary Ward’s vision of freedom, justice, and sincerity, they are supported to engage in a manner that feels authentic and meaningful to them.

Prayer

Students at Loreto College have frequent and meaningful opportunities for the lifting up of hearts and minds to God. These moments of prayer and reflection include:

College Chapel and Multi‑Faith Prayer Room quiet spaces available throughout the day for personal prayer and stillness

Morning Prayer in Chaplaincy or the Chapel each day at 8.30am

Ignatian reflections in Chaplaincy twice daily, offering time to pause and encounter God in the everyday

Weekly Worship in Tutorial, allowing students to reflect and pray on current events or significant moments

Prayer in Hall Assemblies, offering moments of reflection rooted in the Christian tradition and inspired by Mary Ward’s vision, while respecting and welcoming the diverse faiths and beliefs within each Hall community

Common prayers from the Catholic tradition are available to students through the Chaplaincy SharePoint site, along with a variety of resources designed to support and enrich their prayer life.

Celebrations of the Word

Throughout the liturgical year, students are invited to engage more deeply with the College’s Christian heritage and the charism of Mary Ward through Celebrations of the Word held during Core RE lessons. Inspired by Mary Ward’s commitment to seeking God in all things, these celebrations centre on the proclamation of Scripture and explore its themes through art, music, and prayer. Students of every faith tradition are encouraged to consider the values expressed and reflect on how these messages may resonate with their own experiences and personal journeys.

Students are also welcomed to take part in end‑of‑term liturgical services before Christmas and Easter. On these occasions, the College timetable is adjusted so that the whole community can gather in worship and prepare spiritually for these central celebrations of the Christian faith.

Liturgy

As the source and summit of Christian life, the celebration of the Mass stands at the heart of the spiritual life of Loreto College. Mass is offered weekly during lunchtime in the dedicated College Chapel, providing a prayerful space where all staff and students are welcome to gather in worship.

Hall Masses are celebrated throughout the year, with members of each Hall receiving an invitation and encouragement to take part in the liturgical ministries, deepening their sense of community and service.

When holydays of obligation occur during term time, Mass is held during the college day, ensuring that every member of the community is able to fulfil this important aspect of Catholic life.

During Advent and Lent, students are also invited to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in College, offering them a meaningful opportunity for spiritual renewal and growth.

Prayer and liturgy are also thoughtfully planned throughout the year to respond to moments of celebration and times of sorrow within the Loreto community and wider world.Â
