No fewer than thirty four AS chemistry students took part in this year’s prestigious Cambridge Chemistry Challenge. Nominated by their chemistry teacher the determined chemists sat a demanding ninety minute written examination, which is designed to stretch the most able students with questions based on cutting edge research that take them far beyond the A level specification. Eight students achieved a Silver award and four managed to obtain Gold.

Gents-with-Ms-LiveseyHead of Chemistry Ms Livesey was delighted with their efforts, observing that: “Students should be justifiably proud of themselves; the challenge really tests not only their problem solving skills but also their resilience and ability to think under pressure. To get an award is a real achievement.”

The successful students, now all well into their A2 studies, were presented with their awards by Assistant Principal Mr Gaughan at a short ceremony held at the college.
