On Friday, 30th January, Loreto College Chaplaincy were blessed with the opportunity to attend the Veneration of St Carlo Acutis at St Patrick’s Church, Collyhurst. The visit, hosted by the Department of Education at the Salford Diocese, offered students and staff a profound moment of reflection, inspiration and spiritual connection.
Mr Kilburn described the experience as “a day filled with memories and stories shared about ‘God’s Influencer’, St Carlo Acutis, leading to a feeling of being embraced by the presence of the Holy Spirit.”
For many students, the encounter with the relics of St Carlo Acutis left a lasting impression. Lower Sixth student Liam reflected on the peacefulness of the moment:
“Learning so much about such an admirable Saint is always a great thing, and to see his relics was such a peaceful and joyful experience and learning how I can relate to him in some aspects of my life.”
Fellow Lower Sixth student Justina shared how meaningful it was not only to see, but also hold the relics:
“It was quite insane and a memory I will hold forever. What makes Saint Carlo Acutis so special is how unspecial he was—an ordinary young person who loved God and the Eucharist, and spread that love by helping others to the best of his ability. To me, he’s a reminder that our small acts of kindness do matter and make a change in the world.”
She went on to challenge her peers, asking:
“If today were our last, what impact would we have made on the world around us?”
Justina also spoke warmly about celebrating St Carlo’s life alongside schools from across the Diocese, especially within the beauty of St Patrick’s Church—one of the most magnificent churches she has visited.
With humour and heartfelt gratitude, she added:
“Having touched the relic of Saint Carlo Acutis, I am technically now also a relic — and I don’t mind sharing the relic touch with anyone who wants it! Thank you to the Chaplaincy team for this opportunity.”
The trip served as a powerful reminder of the impact young people can make through faith, kindness and authenticity—qualities embodied by St Carlo Acutis, a modern saint who continues to inspire students today. Loreto College looks forward to many more moments that help our community grow in courage, compassion and hope.
We would like to thank Millie Burton, Catherine Moss, and the planning team in the Department of Education at Salford Diocese for their time, support, and invitation to the event.
