Now in its sixth year, Loreto’s Toilet Twinning campaign received a boost when much loved entertainer and ornithologist, Bill Oddie, paid a visit to college. Alumni of the celebrated Cambridge Footlights Revue, one third of the famous Goodies, musician and conservationist, Bill was approached by a supporter of Toilet Twinning who wanted some help in putting on a play aimed at raising awareness of the issue. He wanted to play a more active part and suggested adapting a song, originally written some time ago by his wife for a proposed TV show and then used in a pantomime. With updated lyrics to include references to the Spice Girls reunion, Strictly, Donald Trump, Boris Johnson, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the song proved to be perfect for an event planned for World Toilet Day. A large group of celebrities and other supporters will gather on the steps of St Paul’s Cathedral in London, to publicise the campaign, and to listen to Loreto’s Pop Choir singing the Toilet Song.

Bill came to college, accompanied by Toilet Twinning CEO Lorraine Kingsley, to meet our campaign coordinator Helen Gettings, and to rehearse with the choir.

Bill has grandchildren the same age as our students and it was marvellous to see that he has lost none of his vivacity and sense of humour, as he worked with our choir in the Chapel. They will all meet up again on the steps of St Paul’s, so watch this space….
