Loreto has a strong tradition of academic success. Loreto students achieve, year on year, the highest A level grades of all sixth form colleges in Manchester, Salford, Tameside, Trafford. (See DfE website). The majority of Loreto students achieve grades A & B at advanced level and most subjects have 100% pass rate. In the 2010 OFSTED Report Inspectors commented that:
for students are outstanding’
The results of students who recently left Loreto placed the college first out of all the Greater Manchester schools and colleges and fourth out of 1,109 schools and colleges nationwide, according to ALPS (Advanced Level Performance Systems). The ALPS publication stated that Loreto “is a very high achieving institution” and is producing similar results to “top selective independent schools.”
Loreto College has the rare distinction of receiving the prestigious “Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Further and Higher Education”. The award was presented by Her Majesty the Queen in the presence of His Royal Highness, the Duke of Edinburgh, to the Principal, Ann Clynch, at Buckingham Palace.
Loreto College has been described as “Outstanding in every respect” by OFSTED Inspectors in its recent inspection, published in January 2010. Loreto is the only sixth form college in Greater Manchester to have been recognised as ‘Grade 1’ (Outstanding provision and results) by Ofsted 2010 in a range of subjects, including: Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, Dance, English Language, English Literature, Film Studies, Fine Art, French, German, Graphics, Law, Media, Music, Photography, Physics, Product Design Psychology, Spanish, Textiles, Theatre Studies.
Loreto is Manchester’s only purpose built Sixth Form College. Students now enjoy brand new science labs, Learning Resource Centres, a well-stocked library, ICT Suites, classrooms and cafeterias, including a shop. Modern IT teaching facilities are available in all classrooms. Students have three drop-in study centres with full internet access available through PC and Mac computers. There are over 1200 student use computers on site. Specialist facilities include a dance studio, two theatres and workshop areas, sound recording studios and music technology areas and media production and editing suites. These state of the art facilities are based on a spacious, green and leafy nine acre university style campus with mature gardens. There is every opportunity to study and learn; there is also plenty of space for students to relax and enjoy life at Loreto.
Loreto’s student support programme has been identified by inspectors as “outstanding”. You will be supported and guided through your time at Loreto by your senior tutor, personal tutor, careers staff and teaching staff. We strive to ensure that you achieve your personal best whilst at Loreto and beyond. Loreto’s OFSTED 2010 report stated that:

Patrick Moran
“Loreto has helped me to broaden my horizons and has supported me in all I have done,” says Patrick Moran, a former St Ambrose Barlow student. Patrick is celebrating brilliant results receiving 3 A*s in German, History, & Politics and an A in AS level English Literature. Patrick now looks forward to studying at Christ College, Cambridge.

Annabelle studied Textiles, Media Studies, English Language and Sociology at Loreto and achieved two grade As and two grade Bs respectively in her A-levels. Annabelle is now studying Journalism at Leeds Metropolitan University.
