Who Goes – You Decide!

ImageImageAs part of the Comic Relief fundraising at Loreto Michael Gove, Alice Cooper, Michelle Obama, William Hague, Nick Griffin, Justin Beiber, Jose Mourinho, Katie Price and Ed Milliband unwisely decided to take a hot air balloon trip together.

It soon became evident that the balloon was losing height, and all but one of the passengers had to be thrown out of the balloon if anyone was to survive as part of this comedy debate by Loreto’s popular Debating Club.

The Debating Club is run by Ms Tattersall who commented that ‘’Usually Debating Club spend their Tuesday lunchtimes arguing passionately about big issues such as government policy or medical ethics… however even the most serious student can become surprisingly enthusiastic when offered the difficult choice of whether to throw Katie Price or William Hague out of a balloon!”

It was a tough challenge but the winner in the end was Justin Bieber (Laura Foley). Dr Lyons, one of the audience members, commented that both Laura and second place Jake Goodman had, “great and humorous arguments for keeping themselves in the balloon and Laura used the argument that she was the smallest and lightest and would be good at keeping other people entertained whilst in the balloon... and she'd be the answer if the balloon landed in a French speaking area!” A great time was had by all.

Loreto students have a track record of success in public speaking with achievements in both the Debating Matters Catenian Public Speaking competitions.

Students also arranged a variety of Charity Assemblies to raise awareness of Comic Relief causes including an entertaining doughnut eating challenge from G group. The cake sale continued with an impressive selection of home-baked delights contributed by staff and students alike!
