Sporting Success

It’s been a triumphant year for Loreto with winners in basketball, rugby, badminton and significant break-throughs in athletics, football and table tennis.

The boys Basketball First Team won the North West Regional Basketball Tournament and League and then finished runners up in the British College Elite Cup and League. The Basketball Second Team were also victorious in the Amechi Invitation Tournament.

Loreto’s badminton team took first prize in the Greater Manchester League and the table tennis team were runners-up in their league. In addition athletes will be starting their summer season on a high note after the college team finished third in the North West Athletics Championship.

The Rugby Team topped the Greater Manchester Development Rugby Union League and in football the first and second teams made it to the play-offs of the North West championship for the first time in Loreto’s history. On top of this success the college’s Football First Team also made it to the Manchester Schools Under 19 Cup Final but unfortunately missed out to Manchester City College Football Academy side 2-1.

“Overall this has been a very successful year for the sports teams at Loreto and as well as representing the college many of our students are playing at a national or regional level, “ said Mr Adams, Head of Department for Sport and PE. “I would also thank the many Loreto students and staff who gave up their own time after college to come and support the college’s teams and let’s hope next year we have even more success.”
