Rotary Awards for Outstanding Students

ImageImageStudents at Loreto have been rewarded for their efforts with an honour from the Rotary Club of Manchester Breakfast Awards.

In the first ceremony of its kind at the college 21 students were rewarded for their outstanding commitment to activities in the college and the community.

At a wonderful event the award winners were presented with a glass plaque and certificate by Andrew Goodliffe, President of the Rotary Club, watched on by their family, friends of the Rotary Club and college staff.

The teachers who had nominated students spoke on film about their amazing achievements. Awards were made for students who had shown commitment to sports coaching, progression in the Pathways department, determination to succeed in Study Support, dedication to the college production of Cabaret and outstanding commitment to Voluntary Work.

Ms Barker, Loreto senior tutor, commented  that this was a really moving event to celebrate the fact that students who come to the college are not just given the opportunity to gain great academic results but also to prepare themselves for life by being able to serve their communities and help others.

Image“These students have demonstrated genuine care and concern for others and embody the values of Mary Ward:  justice, freedom, sincerity, truth and joy. They also uphold the guiding principle of the Rotary Club: Service above Self”, said Ms Barker.

She added that it is hoped the awards will become an annual event and are the start of a partnership with the Rotary Club of Manchester Breakfast.
