Rotary Ambassadorial scholar visits Loreto

ImageImageOver 80 students from all over the college enjoyed an entertaining and enthusiastic presentation by Rotary Ambassadorial scholar Ryan Zoradi. Ryan, from California, is studying for a Masters degree at Manchester University on a scholarship which is supported by the Rotary Club.

He gave a fascinating insight into his experiences and the opportunities he has been provided with as a result of this sponsorship. Studying in another country has enabled him to meet a wide diversity of people and to have the chance to travel both locally and internationally as well as gain a post-graduate qualification from a prestigious university.

The Rotary Ambassadorial scholarship, based on the Rotary ideal of ‘Service not Self’ is open to anyone who wants to study in another country and act as an ambassador of goodwill. There was a great deal of interest amongst the students in this programme and several indicated that they hoped to follow up this opportunity in the future.

Students were also joined by Mike Payne from the local Manchester Breakfast Rotary Club. Mr Payne spoke to the students about the charitable work done by the local club both in the UK and internationally and in particular of the health programmes supported in developing countries.

Mrs Barker, a senior tutor at Loreto said, ‘It has been really beneficial to students to hear about the amazing opportunities provided by this programme and the college is pleased to be establishing links with the local Rotary Club.’
