Red Nose Day 2011

ImageImageA fancy dress extravaganza kicked off the climax of a week of exciting events in Loreto’s bid to raise £1500 to support Comic Relief.

Today also saw the head to head challenge of the science staff versus students in a Basketball game in the sports hall.

Both staff and students fought energetically to win as neither wanted to admit defeat! One of the student players, Dominic, felt this was, “a great way to raise money as it appeals to a variety of people.” The final score was 35:15 to the student team! Dr Pendleton, one of the staff players remarked that, “we lost but there were several respectable baskets from the staff team and considering the low level we went in at we did very well!”

ImageStudents raised money dressing up as characters including pandas on space hoppers, dinosaurs, leopards and pirates! Students also raised money through sponsored silences and we had our very own “human doodle” Jake – who charged people to write on him! And the art department provided a face painting service which was extremely popular with both staff and students!
Also, Mr Widdall and Mr Fennell decided to busk to raise money and drew a huge crowd outside the Ward Building!

Events also included the popular “Who Nose the Teacher” competition where students had the chance to look at embarrassing “before they were teachers” pictures of members of staff and had to put a name to the face!

ImageStaff in Ward Building held “Ward Wig Day” to raise funds for Comic Relief.

The Charities Group have organised a successful week of fun events for students and staff alike and it was amazing to see how generous and enthusiastic everyone was when contributing to this worthwhile cause!
