Pathways visit to Jan Air and Manchester airport

ImageImageIt’s all taking off at Loreto’s Pathways Department as students have been checking-in and buckling-up.

The department, which includes students with a range of learning needs, made excellent use of the college’s Jan Air airline cabin for an in-flight experience and followed this up with a visit to Manchester airport.

Once everyone was settled on in the Jan Air cabin, and followed the flight safety instructions, they were able to ask questions which highlighted their developing communication skills.

They also helped with in flight services such as serving goods from the airline trolley and assisting with the overhead luggage. Pathways teacher, Mr Savage, said that two of the students excelled in these activities and showed great potential for working in the airline industry.

In the follow up airport visit the group went to check-ins at terminal 1 and 3 at Manchester airport. They also explored the routes around the airport, including lifts and travellators, as well as investigating other services including the bureau de change, shops, car hire services and places to eat and drink.

And according to Mr Harris, Head of Travel and Tourism, the exercise will lead to more link –ups with the Pathways department. “This was a very useful experience for the students that will be developed further during role play with the college’s travel and tourism students,” he said.
