Papal Honour for Loreto

Anna Koon, who has just completed her A level studies at Loreto, has come up with the winning logo for The Big Assembly,  an event during which Pope Benedict XVI will address thousands of school children.

The 18 year-old who has studied Art and Design and Graphics is delighted to be the winner. Her design will now be used to publicise the Big Assembly event.

ImageDescribing the inspiration for her logo Anna said: “The design for my logo came mainly from experimentation around the words ‘Heart, Cross, and 2010’ and how I could link all these together in a single logo.
“The cross is central to the logo, as the cross symbolizes Christ. The Pope is Christ’s representative on earth. The cross forms the “1” for the 2010. Inspiration for the colour came from a combination of the Papal colour yellow and the red of the heart.”

For the Big Assembly Pope Benedict will speak to 3,000 primary and secondary school children from all around the country at Twickenham near London. It’s believed that his Holiness may use the event to bless all the schoolchildren in Britain for the start of the academic year by broadcasting to schools via interactive whiteboards.

The College was also commended for the high standard of entries from four other students Aimee McDowell, Rebecca Abdy, Rebecca Booth and Ben Flanagan.
