Manchester Medical School Visit

ImageImageLoreto’s future medics have benefitted from university expertise to help them into their chosen careers.

Students from Manchester Medical School came into College in the Easter Holidays to run an exciting half-day programme for lower sixth students.

ImageAs well as lots of useful information and hints, there were four workshops involving 'hands on' activities illustrating some of the practical aspects of medicine such as suturing, measuring blood pressure, resuscitation and anatomy.

Chemistry teacher Mrs Winn commented that Loreto students were very fortunate to have experienced a high quality event, at no cost, run by such enthusiastic and knowledgeable medical students.

The revision day came on top of a special visit to Keele University Medical School which gave twelve of our AS students the chance to experience the day-to- day life of a doctor.

Mrs Winn said the day had given students an invaluable insight into medicine.

“We participated in a fun series of interactive sessions in Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry,” said Mrs Winn, “and students enjoyed measuring their peak flow and examining parts of dead bodies!”

The students also tasted university life at Keele, which has one of the largest campuses in Britain. They also learnt about the different routes that can be taken into a medical career.
