A 'Metamorphosis' takes place in Loreto's Theatre

ImageImageLucky Drama and Performing Arts students saw a brand new adaptation of Franz Kafka’s ‘Metamorphosis’ in Loreto’s state-of-the-art theatre.

The production, by Scene Productions was a highly stylised and energetic retelling of Kafka’s dark and nightmarish tale in which a hardworking young man wakes to find out he’s been turned into a giant beetle.
Mr Price, Head of Performing Arts said the students were impressed by how inventive the company were in using a minimal set   - just 3 wooden chairs and a few large frames created an entire house and a variety of rooms within it. And the students had the chance to quiz the actors in a question and answer session after the performance.

As part of their course the students have been studying physical theatre and other non-naturalistic styles and so watching a well-executed performance on campus helped them to understand the components of such performance work. Some students commented that they were going to use some of the techniques they’d seen in their work.

Mr Price, Head of Performing Arts said: “Enabling students to see live theatre is key to their understanding of the subject and can be a huge basis for the ideas development as performers. We always give the students a range of work to see. We’ve already had trips to the Royal Exchange to see Edward II by Christopher Marlowe, Beautiful Thing by Jonathan Harvey and seeing this new adaptation of Metamorphosis was a great end to a busy term.”
