Loreto College has many well researched and
effective strategies in place to help all our students to reach their potential and beyond. The Oxbridge Unit has a well established programme to prepare students with the ability and the desire to apply to Oxford and Cambridge to successfully achieve places there including: tutoring by Oxbridge
staff, an extension programme designed to stretch, excite, challenge and prepare for students for entry examinations; interviews and residential visits to the universities.
Loreto has also been selected by Cambridge University to be the lead institution in their HE+ Programme.

The HE+ programme will offer Loreto students including
  • A focussed tutor system to undertaken extension activities
  • Extension classes in core subjects;
  • Student workshops led by Cambridge staff addressing
  • such topics as considering and applying to Cambridge;
  • Masterclasses delivered by Cambridge academics; and
  • visits to Cambridge;

The programme, with over eighty students currently involved, is designed to engage potential applicants early in Year 12 so that they have time to consider and prepare for their university applications. The Masterclasses are  delivered by Cambridge academics, including Fellows and postgraduate students, and are intended to articulate with the students’ A level studies. A series of extension classes focusing on core A level subjects in the arts and the sciences: (i) Economics, English, Geography and History & Politics; and (ii) Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics will be offered. The classes provide students with opportunities to acquire a deeper and broader understanding of these subjects and to enhance their use of appropriate study skills.
