Loreto Physics students at Manchester University

ImageImageIt’s all-go for physics students at Loreto with hi-tech electronic challenges and special events to help explain big questions about the universe.

Five teams from Loreto teamed up with other Greater Manchester sixth-formers to solve various real-life problems including traffic management and managing water shortages at Manchester University.

As part of the STEM challenge the teams worked with professionals from industry such as United Utilities to come up with solutions.

A2 physics student Jennifer Lau worked on the traffic management problem and said the week was challenging and enjoyable.

“We made a circuit based on an electronic circuit board which we'd never used in college before, though we got to apply what we learnt in physics about parallel and series circuits on this fun project,” she said.

And other physics students are currently attending a prestigious physics event at Corpus College, Cambridge. The students are attending the Ogden Physics Symposium and attending lectures at the university on Special Relativity and Spin. They’ll also be undertaking laboratory work in the Cavendish Laboratory and attending a formal university dinner.
