Loreto International

ImageImageJoining Loreto College is so much more than joining a single organisation. Loreto schools and colleges are spread throughout the world, some serving the very poorest communities. Every year students from Loreto College take the opportunity to do voluntary work in some of the Loreto’s international schools.
Patrick Lancaster came to Loreto College from St Phillip Howard School, Glossop and studied A levels in Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Biology – achieving grade A’s in all subjects. Before beginning his university career Patrick decided to take a gap year. Loreto College was able to offer Patrick a placement doing voluntary work in one of the Loreto schools in India, Loreto Sealdah.

Below is an extract from Patrick’s latest email, telling us how he is spending his time working with the ‘rainbow’ children, who actually live at the Loreto Sealdah school because they have no homes to go to:

"I have been in Kolkata for 6 weeks now working in Loreto Sealdah. It is a truly amazing and unique experience, one I will surely never forget. I spend the first few hours of my day teaching English to the young rainbow children (children who live in the school) then teach Maths to the older children who attend the regular school, my evenings are spent playing with the rainbow children. There are about 1400 children in the school, half of which pay fees and half of which don't. It's great to think these children are benefiting from me being here but I know for a fact I get more from then than they do from me!"
