Loreto’s election results revealed!

ImageImageAfter an exciting day of voting at Loreto College the results are finally in…!

The winning party was the Socialist Party, by 3 votes. New Labour came a close second, followed by the Liberal Democrats in third. Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and felt that it brought to life the significance of the national election.
 

Students were well prepared for the election as party candidates has taken part in a mock election debate. Candidates showed a great deal of maturity in their discussions on a wide range of issues and the audience asked a broad range of questions.

The winning candidate, Aneesa Akbar, representing the Socialist Party said, ‘The mock election was great to get people talking about politics. Winning wasn’t the most important thing, getting people talking about politics was.’

Teacher Dr Robertson, who helped the students organise the election, said, ‘“The quality of debate and student involvement was outstanding. The mock election shows that students are interested in politics and political issues, it also shows that politics is fun!”
