Students travelled to the most powerful places on the planet in an action-packed visit to the United States. The history and politics trip was an opportunity for 30 students to see where the big decisions are made in New York and Washington DC.

Philadelphia followed New York with a chance to see where the American Declaration of Independence was signed in preparation for seeing the original document in Washington DC on the next stage of the trip.

Visiting the centre of US power, where Obama was holding important talks on the future of American health care, was an exciting experience for the students who have studied the significance of Washington in American politics and history.

ImageAs well as visiting the White House, the Supreme Court, Arlington Cemetery and Congress the students took an entertaining bus tour of the city. Those who also study Classics had the chance to appreciate the influence of the ancients on the City’s architecture.

History and Politics teacher Ms Cooper said the trip was a fantastic chance for students to see where events they study actually took place.
“The students were exhausted by the end but coming back they have talked about how ‘brilliant’, ‘amazing’, ‘invaluable’, and ‘utterly exciting’ it all was,” she said.
Image“They were extremely well behaved, a fact commented on by diners in a New York restaurant,  hotel staff, security staff at the Capitol and by the BA aircrew.”
“A parent has also written to say what a fantastic experience his daughter had and how the trip had not only been beneficial for her studies, but her cultural and social development plus it was extremely good value for money!” added Ms Cooper.
