Holocaust Memorial Exhibition

ImageImageA special exhibition to remember Holocaust survivors goes on show in Loreto’s Ellis and Kennedy Building today.

The exhibit shows the faces of Holocaust survivors who lived through Nazi persecution and went on to make new lives in Britain.

They were taken by award winning photographer Matt Writtle who over the last 17 years has worked for newspapers including The Guardian and The Times. Mr Writtle said the exhibition is designed to remind the present generation of the horrors of the past.

ImageThe display entitled Portraits for Posterity will be on the yellow floor in Ellis and Kennedy Building in the large media display area for the next two weeks. During this time the R.E department will be taking classes over to view the photos and students are being encouraged to take the time to look at the images and remember the horror of the Holocaust.

Very few Jewish people survived the ghettos, extermination and labour camps of the Nazi regime and those who are alive today are now elderly. By creating images of the few, the exhibit provides a permanent memorial that also commemorates the millions who perished without portraits.
