Former student cuts hair for charity

ImageImageA former Loreto student has been so touched by the plight of a young Peruvian girl in her bid to get educated that she has had her long hair cropped short in order to raise money to help her.

Alma Dimitriu came to Loreto from St Peter's and before studying Medicine at St Andrews she took a gap year teaching in Peru.

The placement was coordinated in Peru by the Loreto sisters and had such an impact she went back in the break between getting her degree in Medicine and beginning her clinical training.

There she was particularly struck by one girl called Julisa, with real sparkle and drive, but who faces great difficulties balancing working in the fields and doing her school work. In addition her family are not supportive of her continuing her education.

On returning to the UK Alma decided to raise funds to help sponsor Julisa, who is now 15, so that she can find a road to freedom via education.

ImageSo for her latest fundraising challenge Alma’s has bravely had her long hair, which she has been growing since she was seven, cut short.  Her goal is to raise £500 to give Julisa the chance of continuing her education and being able to take charge of her life.
