Brief description of Unit 1: In this unit you are required to show knowledge and understanding of language features and how they contribute to meaning in spoken and written English. You will be asked to analyse and discuss the language used in texts using appropriate terminology. The main focus will be on how writers and speakers have used language to convey ideas, thoughts, attitudes, bias and opinions.
Brief description of Unit 2: You will be required to submit a folder that contains two pieces of work. One will be a single, extended piece of original, fictional writing. The writing will be accompanied by a commentary to explain how language was used to achieve effects. The second piece of work will be an investigation of the use of spoken language in the media.
