Like the rest of the country students at Loreto are gearing up for the election day - but with a difference.
Nationally there is a massive power struggle between Labour and the Conservatives but for the Loreto college mock election there is no candidate standing for either party…
Despite the missing big names six candidates battled it out at the hustings on Tuesday and have run dogged campaigns with posters, campaign videos on the web and even an attempt to sway voters with cakes.
At the mock election debate candidates showed a great deal of maturity in their discussions on a wide range of issues and the audience asked a broad range of questions.
“The Liberal Democrat candidate put forward some good arguments while The Truth Party candidate was very entertaining.” said Mr Robertson.
“There was a lot of discussion about defence and the Green Party focused on policies such as votes for 16 year-olds and improving public transport. The discussions were of a high standard and good humoured but the litmus test will be the level of turn out today.” he added
The six candidates are: Alex Kelly: Liberal Democrats; Calum Page: Monster Raving Loony Party; Patrick Moran: Green Party; Aneesa Akbar: Socialist Party; Adam Mundie: New Labour; Joshua Pendlebury: Truth Party.
