Economics

Students who study A-level Economics have not usually studied the subject at GCSE. 

Economics is suitable for a wide range of careers from working as an economist, to investment banking, to research. 

It provides students with a wide ranging skill base, and the analytical skills and ability to understand complex concepts which it offers makes it an excellent subject to study if you are looking to apply to a top university.

Level 3 one year course, 4 periods per week
Unit 1: 

Brief description of Unit 1:  This is a micro-economics unit which looks at how resources are allocated in different economic systems; the market mechanism/supply and demand theory and, finally, what makes markets efficient or leads them to fail. 

Unit 2: 

Brief description of Unit 2: This unit looks at government policy objectives and key economic indicators, such as inflation, unemployment and the exchange rate, and how they can create issues in an economy. It helps students to understand why the government makes certain policy decisions and why the economy can do well or go into a period of recession.
