Drama and Theatre Studies

Drama & Theatre Studies is for students seeking the opportunity to study all aspects of the stage, from acting to set and costume design. A-level students study stimulating plays and theatre practitioners from the viewpoint of an actor or director and create a performance piece (AS scripted, A2 devised). There will be many opportunities to watch professional performances at some of Manchester’s best theatres. The course provides an excellent pathway to Theatre Studies at university or even a vocational drama school. Students will normally have a good grade in Drama GCSE, or strong results in English/English Literature GCSE.

As a drama student, you will have a passion for theatre and performance. You will enjoy analyzing and creating theatre. You may be keen on acting, writing or the technical elements of theatre and wish to develop your skills in some of these areas. Equally, you will be interested in going to the theatre to see plays performed by different theatre companies in a range of styles.

You will develop your analytical and interpretative skills and become an informed theatre critic. Through practical group work you will work as a member of a team and improve your social and communication skills.
