City's record A-level results

Each year the DfE produce a league table of A level grades for all colleges, measuring them on the A level grades achieved by their students, known as the Average Points Per Entry (APE). Loreto is positioned seventh out of the ninety-eight sixth form colleges in in the country for APE, with the majority of  Loreto students achieving A*,A or B grades.
 
Ofsted recognised this achievement: ‘As a result of their (Loreto’s) high attainment, students are able to apply successfully for courses which are very selective, including medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy, at high profile universities… students’ progression to university is high.’ Ofsted 2010. Universities make offers to students based on A level grade performance.

Every year Manchester students compete with hundreds of thousands of students from across the country. Loreto’s reputation for excellent results, high A Level grades and consistently above average performance in national and local league tables gives Loreto students an advantage when applying to university. Loreto is the only sixth form college in Manchester, Salford, Oldham, Bolton, and Trafford which, year on year, has achieved A Level results above, national, regional and local averages for its students. Loreto students are successful in competing against the highest achieving scholars for places at Oxford and Cambridge. Some twenty-eight Loreto students have places across the academic disciplines at these ancient centres of learning. The achievement of very high pass grades is supplemented by the tailored extension and support programme, while Loreto is even more closely linked in its role as the lead college in the north-west “Cambridge HE+ Programme.’’

The majority of Loreto students achieve grades A & B at advanced level. With this academic record, Loreto students are well placed to apply to the other prestigious universities, notably the Russell Group, for the most sought after courses. Loreto students can compete against other students on a national level for the best university places.

Loreto is still the only college in the country to achieve ‘Outstanding’ in every category and for every subject under the new, very rigorous OFSTED framework. In total Loreto secured 35 grade 1’s and was described by OFSTED Inspectors as ‘Outstanding in every respect.

Loreto is the only sixth form college in Greater Manchester to have been recognised as ‘Grade 1’ (Outstanding provision and results) by Ofsted 2010 in a range of subjects, including: Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting, Business Studies, Classical Civilisation, Dance, English Language, English Literature, Film Studies, Fine Art, French, German, Graphics, Law, Media, Music, Photography, Physics, Product Design Psychology, Spanish, Textiles, Theatre Studies.

Every year Loreto students achieve excellent examination results. With a sustained pass rate of over 99% for many years, it is no surprise that over 85% of Loreto’s students go onto University. Loreto has an excellent reputation. Offering outstanding examination results, state of the art facilities and an extremely wide range of extra curricular activities the Manchester Evening News named Loreto as ‘The Best in Britain.’

ALPS (the Advanced Level Performance System) in its annual analysis of schools’ and colleges’ advanced level results places Loreto 4th out 1,109 putting it in the top 1% nationally.

Loreto has received national recognition for its academic record.The college was honoured with the Queen’s Award for Further and Higher Education a rare achievement for a Sixth Form College. More recently Loreto was awarded the prestigiousBeacon Award from the Department for Children, Schools and Families for the Successful Delivery of Advanced Level Qualifications.

Loreto College is the recipient of the “Beacon of Beacons” the AoC President’s Prize, described as the “cream of the crop … an outstanding example of achievement in further education” chosen by the President of the AoC Charitable Trust, paralympic gold medallist Giles Long, MBE.
