Best Results Ever!

ImageCongratulations to the students and staff of Loreto College: they have once again produced outstanding results in the advanced level examinations this summer.

ImageThis follows on a remarkable year when the college has been highly ranked in terms of student progression to higher education. The Government funded Sutton Trust has published for the first time in 2011 research focusing on students’ progression rates to the Russell Group universities. This data notes Loreto College, Manchester sends more students to university and more of those go to the Russell Group, including Oxford and Cambridge, than other  state post-16 providers in the city.

As the Loreto Advanced level pass rate this summer is once more over 99%, with the majority of students achieving A*-B  grades, the number of Loreto College students progressing to these highly prestigious universities will once again be very high.

ImageThis confirms OFSTED’s recent comment: “The proportion of students progressing to higher education is high. As a result of their high attainment, students are able to apply successfully for courses which are very selective, including medicine, dentistry and physiotherapy, at high profile universities”.

Principal Ann Clynch was delighted with the results: “I am once again really pleased with the outstanding results achieved by our students. It is a credit to their hard work, under the excellent guidance of our inspirational staff, that these results have been achieved”.  Image

The hard work of students and staff throughout the year has been rewarded with a set of outstanding results. Here are some of the highlights:

Over 99% pass rate for the 10th year running

1 in 4 students achieve an A* or A grade.

Increased number of students achieving the highest grades, at both A2  & AS level.

2970 Grade A*-B achieved, the highest in the history of the college

100% pass rate in all vocational areas

Superb AS results

Once again a substantial number of Loreto College students have secured places at Russell Group universities (including Oxford and Cambridge) to study at degree level across a wide range of disciplines.

Principal Ann Clynch is very proud of these achievements, saying: “Progression to these leading universities give our young people wider life choices: it is wonderful that so many still aspire to this level of academic excellence.”

Suzanne Duffy and Patrick Moran have both secured offers to continue their studies at Cambridge University. This is a remarkable double act for Suzanne and Patrick as they both attended the same primary school, St Lukes’, the same high school, St Ambrose Barlow, the same college, Loreto College and will now be attending the same university! Added to this they both achieved a clean sweep of A* grades in their A levels!

ImageSuzanne, who has achieved A* grades in A level English Literature, English Language and History at Loreto College, has secured an offer to read English at Girton college, Cambridge. Patrick has achieved A* grades in A level German, Government and Politics and History at Loreto College. He will attend Christ’s College, Cambridge to read Archaeology and Anthropology. "Loreto has helped me to broaden my horizons and has supported me in all I have done." says Patrick.

Loreto student Leyla Sudbury is celebrating as she has secured an offer to read Engineering at Queen’s College, Cambridge. Leyla studied A levels in Chemistry, Maths, Further Maths and Physics at Loreto and achieved A* grades in them all.

ImageLeyla’s passion for science was ignited at Loreto. Visiting Egypt with Biology, working with Rolls Royce in Physics and taking part in national level competitions in maths meant that Leyla had the opportunity to stretch her academic abilities to the limit. These experiences inspired Leyla to pursue a career in Engineering, not an academic route often followed by women. Even fewer female students secure places at Cambridge to study the discipline. Leyla has distinguished herself further by taking up a work placement post with LandRover over the summer holidays. She has had the opportunity to work within a range of departments across the LandRover group. Leyla says one of the most exciting aspects of the role has been contributing to research into the electric and hybrid cars of the future. Leyla has also taken part in a collaboration with the government to secure more funding to encourage more women such as herself into a career in engineering.
