Basketball Success

ImageImageLoreto’s Basketball Academy has proved it’s the best in Britain with both the boys and girls teams becoming national under-19 champions.  The teams cleaned up at the National Cup Final 4’s in Telford and the players have been praised by their coach for the way they dominated their games.

ImageIn the boy’s final, Loreto were up against Harris Academy Beckenham, a London team which includes players from the England team but once Loreto opened up a double figure lead they never relinquished to win 85-73.  The girls took on Taunton College from Southampton in the final and it was obvious from the very start of the game that Loreto were far too strong for their opposition. A very dominant performance from all the girls led to an impressive win of 82 to 46.

Head basketball coach and PE teacher Mr Middleton congratulated the teams.  “It’s the second national title in a row for the Academy Boys and a fantastic achievement for all involved,” he said, “It’s a proud moment for the college to be able to say that Loreto holds the 2012 U19’s National Cup Champions for both boys and girls.”

Mr Middleton also commented on the wins in the semi final games and said that every member of the boys’ team had put in a fantastic performance against Derby College and the girls had come through a tough semi-final game against Kent-based Oaklands but had kept up the pressure to win 74-48.
